How to commission a bespoke splashback
Commissioning a Steve Robinson splashback is a way of infusing your style and personality into a domestic or commercial kitchen or bathroom. Our designs can be led by you; if you have ideas, we’ll bring them to life. We’re also here to offer creative inspiration and to advise on colours, textures and dimension. We aim to make the commissioning process as straightforward and exciting for clients as possible. If you can’t visit the studio, that’s no problem – it can all be achieved by phone, email or post. Commissioning is made up of five stages:
The design brief
Steve Robinson will talk with you in detail about your ideas and aspirations and from that will formulate a design brief. This will take account of the style of the room in which the splashback will feature, the colours and materials used and the overall look and feel you want to create. Clients often send us samples and paint swatches to match and, because we specialise in raw-colouring techniques, we’re able to build the exact shade they are looking for.
It is also helpful to see photographs of the room and intended space for the splashback; or if this is not yet built, then any visuals and plans from your designer or architect. We will confirm the precise cost of the commission. If you want to proceed then a non-refundable deposit becomes payable before the design work can begin, typically 10% of the commission value. We accept payment by card, bank transfer or PayPal.
Concept drawings
From the design brief, Steve Robinson will produce a number of concept drawings. These will be discussed with you and refined (perhaps combining elements of each drawing) until your perfect design is formed.
Glass samples
You will be given, alongside the concept drawings, specially made glass samples enabling you to see the design colours and textures in their true form. These can be adapted as necessary until you are completely happy.
Payment
Once the design is finalised the balance of payment becomes due. Production will begin once that payment has cleared.
Completion
Once the splashback has been made, we will send you some images so that you can make sure that you are completely happy before taking delivery, which can be timed to fit in with a kitchen or bathroom build or renovation.
The entire commissioning process usually lasts between eight and twelve weeks.
Please do contact us with any questions, or in order to start the commissioning process.
