Exhibition of New Work
•Leave a CommentFollowing Steve’s admittance to the Devon Guild of Craftsmen he was invited to take part in “Spotlight”, a biennial exhibition of innovative work from selected Associate Members.
The pieces Steve has made for this show are a result of fresh ideas he has been developing to create a new body of work, which he describes as follows:
“I am exploring working in a looser more expressive, abstract way.
Leaf-forms have always been a favourite of mine, but recently I have been examining the papery bark of Silver Birch trees during our walks on Dartmoor.
Experimenting with multiple firings at varying temperatures and using the enamels on both sides of the glass, I am enjoying finding ways to create new effects in the glass such as textures of bark.
Forests and woodlands can be very mysterious and contemplative environments. Each season with its changing light and colours evokes different emotions for me, from the bare trees of winter to the rich hues of autumn and translucent canopies of leaves in spring and summer. I am looking forward to further exploring these themes throughout this year.”
